چکیده

This paper is concerned with the description of an algorithm for generating the B-nets of box splines and an algorithm based on subdivision of these B-nets for graphically displaying spline surfaces on a three-or four-directional mesh. The combination of these two algorithms is shown to compare favorably over the other existing algorithms for this purpose. 0 1 x1. Introduction It is well known that multivariate box spline functions provide a useful approximation family of piecewise polynomials on the uniform grid partition such as the three{ and four{ directional meshes in the bivariate setting (cf. BD83], BH82] for reference on the basic properties of box spline functions.) In some applications, the exact values of a box spline at certain points are also needed. For instance, in bivariate cardinal interpolation (cf. BHR85a], BHR85b]) and quasi-interpolation by using box splines (cf. CD87], CL87a], CDR88]), exact values of the box splines at integers are required. In other applications such as in computer-aided geometric design and computer graphics, one needs graphically displaying a spline surface constructed by translates of box spline B(jX) in the following form

Curvature continuous spline surfaces over irregular meshes

Conccpts and techniques for thc construction of spline surfaces over irregular meshes are developed and made concrete by exhibiting a family of 0 2 surface splines. These splines extend the B-spline paradigm for the construction of parametric piecewise polynomial surfaces to control_meshe9 with non quadrila.leral cells and mOre or fewer Lhan four cells meeting at a point. In particular, the mes...

Adaptive Fitting of C∞ Surfaces to Dense Triangle Meshes

The use of triangle meshes for the representation of surfaces with highly complex geometry and arbitrary topology has become the de facto standard in many different areas of computer graphics and geometry processing. This is mainly due to (1) their geometric simplicity, (2) the existence of efficient algorithms for displaying, editing, smoothing, simplifying, remeshing, parametrizing and compre...

on E C mull J This paper describes a method for recursive/y generating surfaces that approximate points/ying-on a mesh of arbitrary topology. The method is presented as a generalization of a recursive bicubic B-spline patch subdivision algorithm. For rectangular contro/-point meshes, the method generates a standard B-spline surface. For non-rectangular meshes, it generates surfaces that are sho...

A comparison of Gaussian and mean curvature estimation methods on triangular meshes of range image data

Estimating intrinsic geometric properties of a surface from a polygonal mesh obtained from range data is an important stage of numerous algorithms in computer and robot vision, computer graphics, geometric modeling, and industrial and biomedical engineering. This work considers different computational schemes for local estimation of intrinsic curvature geometric properties. Four different algor...

We introduce curvature continuous regular free-form surfaces with triangular control nets. These surfaces are composed of quartic box spline surfaces and are piecewise polynomial multisided patches of total degree 8 which minimize some energy integral. The B ezier nets can be computed eeciently form the spline control net by some xed masks, i.e. matrix multiplications. k-free-form surfaces need...
